This tour combines two wonderful destinations in one journey. Croatia welcomes you with sunlit coastlines, vineyards, national parks, fishing ports, and charming medieval towns. It’s a place where warm hospitality meets endless nature.
Right next door, Slovenia might be lesser known, but it’s no less magical. Here you’ll find Alpine peaks, fairy-tale lakes like Bled, lush wine regions, and the green, laid-back capital Ljubljana. Together, these two countries offer a perfect blend of culture, adventure, and slow travel charm.

Day 1: Zagreb
Start your adventure in Zagreb, Croatia’s lively capital. Unlike the Dalmatian coast, Zagreb isn’t overwhelmed by tourists, which makes exploring all the more authentic. Museums (don’t miss the quirky Museum of Broken Relationships), wine cellars, outdoor cafés, and grand Austro-Hungarian architecture give this city its unique charm.
Evening tip: wander through the cobblestone Upper Town and find a cozy tavern where locals gather.
Accommodation: Hotel Academia / Garden Hotel or similar
Day 2: Ljubljana
Cross into Slovenia and discover Ljubljana, a city of bridges, leafy riversides, and pastel-colored medieval streets. Compact and walkable, it feels refreshingly relaxed compared to other European capitals.
Sip coffee along the Ljubljanica River, or taste local delicacies at the lively Open Kitchen market (Fridays, March–October). With its castle watching over the town and its title of European Green Capital 2016, Ljubljana is the perfect mix of culture and calm.
Accommodation: Hotel Lev / Vault Hotel or similar
Day 3: Lake Bled & Triglav National Park
Wake up for one of Slovenia’s most iconic sights: Lake Bled. Row across to the tiny island church, hike up to Bled Castle for sweeping views, or simply swim in the lake’s crystal waters.
For the adventurous, continue into Triglav National Park. Here you can raft the emerald Soca River, hike lush valleys, or, if you’re up for it, summit Mount Triglav at 2,864m. For a gentler pace, take one of the many forest trails and breathe in Slovenia’s Alpine air.
Accommodation: Hotel Lev / Vault Hotel or similar
Day 4: Piran
Head towards the coast. On the way, cave lovers can stop at Postojna or Škocjan, with their impressive underground halls and rivers.
Your destination is Piran, a seaside gem on a peninsula, once part of the Venetian Republic. Think narrow alleys, bell towers, and terracotta rooftops glowing in the sunset. Just nearby is Portorož, with beaches and wellness spas. Perfect for a slow evening.
Accommodation: Hotel Marko / Boutique Hotel Portorose or similar
Days 5–6: Istria
Before crossing back into Croatia, visit the Piran Salt Pans, where salt has been harvested for centuries.
Then it’s time to explore Istria, a peninsula dotted with medieval hill towns like Motovun and Rovinj, vineyards, and olive groves. Wander small villages like Vodnjan, Vrsar, and Labin, or dive into the Adriatic at the Kamenjak Peninsula with its clear waters and hidden coves.
Don’t miss Pula, where a Roman amphitheater rivals the Colosseum. These two days are best spent road-tripping at your own pace, with plenty of food, wine, and sea swims along the way.
Accommodation: Park Plaza Belvedere Medulin / Hotel Modo or similar
Day 7: Rijeka or Krk Island
Choose between exploring Rijeka, a once-industrial port now reinventing itself as a cultural hub (European Capital of Culture 2020), or visiting Krk, one of Croatia’s largest islands. Connected to the mainland by a bridge, Krk offers beaches, vineyards, and fishing villages.
Accommodation: Hotel Neboder / Hotel Jadran or similar
Day 8: Plitvice Lakes National Park
Today brings one of the trip’s greatest highlights: Plitvice Lakes. Wooden boardwalks lead you past turquoise waters and dozens of cascading waterfalls. It’s a place where nature feels untouched and timeless, easily one of Europe’s most beautiful national parks.
Accommodation: Hotel Mirjana & Rastoke / Hotel Grabovac or similar
Day 9: Return to Zagreb
Drive back to Zagreb to complete the circle. If you have time before your flight, stop at Rastoke, a village where houses sit over waterfalls, the perfect, fairy-tale ending to your Balkan adventure.
